so in the way of children her age, my child simply bounced back from her incident in the most simple way.
we went outside on earth day to draw on the bike path in sidewalk chalk. the child who'd been making fun of her approached us and asked to play, and my daughter happily agreed, adding: "but you're not allowed to make fun of me, ever."
which solved it. i was stunned, and pleased.
