night shift = woo!

earson: you are my joy - the reindeer section
eyeson: cloverfield (thumbs up, but why does everyone have to DIE?)
thoughton: she's too little! c'mon now, you've never taken care of her alone for more than a few hours! are you nuts?

this is my first overnight and i'm pretty much enamoured. the atmosphere is easygoing, by 1AM all nurses and aides are surfing the internet and wearing isolation coats to keep warm. someone's turned on an independent jazz/folk station in the breakroom, there's a constant flow of fresh coffee, and nearly every patient but the confused folks are passed out for the night. there's an open heart surgery for tomorrow but because i'm still an 'orientee' i don't have to shave the chest of that particulary hairy specimen.

no bed baths, no crazy fleeing back and forth to find a bp/o2 sat machine that actually works, has all of its parts, and has a working thermometer somewhere in it's baskets .. no bitter daytime RNs fluttering about in a test/drug/bathroom frenzy .. discussions, sauntering, giggling, and a general quietness mark the night shift and i can't describe just how much more appealing it is.

later today after i get out of work i'll go buy grape jelly, figure out why the car insurance company thinks my driving license is suspended, and take a really long deserv-ed nap during the daytime until Z gets home.

the time has come .. he wants the baby to fly by herself to PA 'accompanied' by a stewardess .. she's only 6 years old and i think the answer is no, i'm too afraid .. she's too small, can't this wait until she's double digits?

p.s. - thank you for the +fav, you need to turn on your notes!
